Chamber Music Work of the Day, Installment 27:
"Kojo no tsuki Variant" for 2 Contrabass Flutes
(2011, arr. 2015)
This work is based on the Japanese song, "Kojo no tsuki" ("The Moon over the Ruined Castle"), which was written in the Meiji period. "Kojo no tsuki Variant" is an arrangement for 2 contrabass flutes that I made of my 2011 piece, "Kojo no tsuki" for clarinet and piano, which I created for a call for scores.
I created the arrangement for my friend, colleague, and world-renowned virtuoso low flutes player, Peter Sheridan, whose acquaintance I was very fortunate to make via the Internet. Follow the next URL to visit his website. https://www.marriedflutes.net
Peter subsequently performed the "Kojo no tsuki Variant" two times of which I am aware, both times joined by flutist David Lamont: first on 4 March 2016 in the Ostin Music Center at UCLA, and again on 13 August 2016 at the 44th Annual National Flute Association Convention in the Terrace Room at the Town and Country Resort in San Diego.
