Choral(/Vocal/Instrumental) Piece of the Day, Installment 29: An Easy Decision (a.k.a. Not An Easy Decision): An Easy Decision, for SATB Chorus, or Unison Chorus, or Mezzo-Soprano Solo, and Piano. Composed in 2006, this is one of my most light-hearted works. Albeit quite brief, this piece is also known as Not An Easy Decision in its instrumental guise for Soprano Saxophone and Piano. Cheeky, no? ;-)
An Easy Decision is a setting of one of my favorite humorous poems of the same name by the poet, Kenneth Patchen. Here is that poem.
I had finished my dinner
Gone for a walk
It was fine
Out and I started whistling
It wasn't long before
I met a Man and his wife riding on
A pony with seven
Kids running along beside them
I said hello and
Went on
Pretty soon
I met another
Couple
This time with nineteen
Kids and all of them
Riding on
A big smiling hippopotamus
I invited them home
