Instrumental Solo Composition of the Day, Installment 14:

"Morning in Boston" for

Tenor Saxophone Solo

The music of "Morning in Boston" recalls when I lived in the Jamaica Plain area of Boston from 1982–1984. The calm sound of church bells is juxtaposed with contrastingly harsh city noises. This piece is also a brief etude for multiple techniques: quarter tone bends, flutter tonguing, tremolando, and intervalic leaps performed legato.

"Morning in Boston" was performed by Drew Hosler on November 20, 2021, live online with Virtual Concert Halls. The webpage for this event follows; it includes an embedded YouTube video of the performance.
