Program Notes: “The Saxophonist” is a tone portrait of a busy performer. It’s marked “Mercurial” referring to the swift Roman “messenger of the gods.” I led a different sort of life, so I don’t know how performers like Drew maintain their teaching and performing duties while managing to have a personal life.
